Torill Kvalheim

content_tn_torill3 I am a 56 year old norwegian woman living in Bergen, near The Fjords. I have been working with jewelry design as a hobby for the last 6-7  years. When I started jewelry making was not a common hobby in Norway, but the last 2-3 years it  has become the most popular hobby among Norwegian woman, and 1 1/2 years ago I opened my own bead store. I also have classes where I teach in different techniques.

As you may see in my work, I use all kinds of techniques and materials. From scrap paper and resin as seen in the Brown Belt Buckle, to the loveliest handmade lampwork beads as seen in the bracelet New Dawn. (Beads by Jelveh Jaferian.) In fact I won the Winter Beauty Contests with that little work of art.

My bracelet Blossom & Blueberry is one of the first bracelets I have ever made, and I think it came out very nice. I have used a sterling silver curb chain and added lots of freshwater pearls in different sizes and styles. Also in the piece are Swarovski crystals in 10mm CrystalAB, peridot 6x9mm teardrops, tiny vintage Lucite flowers, Czech pressed flowers, and some absolutely breathtaking transparent vintage glass leaves.

The Pink Angel Set has a necklace, bracelet and belt buckle made in antiqued gold colored brass.
The necklace is made from two brass floral heart stampings, one with an open heart in the middle, and one without. The two pieces are glued together with E6000 glue, and the open heart is filled with pink liquid glass. Complete with a Victorian paper scrap angel face. Glued around the angel face and on the edge are "hundreds" of tiny flowers, leaves, crystals and other goodies.

I have used the same technique on the bracelet. To give it a solid look I’ve glued two bracelets together. The rectangles meant for adding pictures, have been filled with pink liquid glass, and then Lucite flowers, leaves, crystals and more glass were added.

The belt buckle is made from an antiqued colored brass blank where I have added some big Lucite flowers in different pink colors, one tiny vintage enamel butterfly, and lots of Swarovski crystals in dark pink. There are also some vintage Lucite leave and lilies in green. A Swarovski chain with pink crystals is glued all around the edge

My Butterfly Belt Buckle is made from a gold colored belt blank, which I have treated with paint to get the antique look. The butterfly is from a Victorian paper scrap and glued to the buckle with some liquid glass. I have use E6000 to glue the topaz colored crystals and lovely Lucite lilies to the buckle, and then covered the entire butterfly with a 2-3mm layer of liquid glass. The buckle looks great on a light-brown snap-on belt.

My bracelet New Dawn is created with some lovely lampwork beads made from one of my favorite lampwork artists, Jelveh Jaferian. Together with the wonderful lampwork beads, I’ve used lots of glass flowers in different pink / peach colors, lovely vintage leaves in transparent glass, grayish-pink Biwa pearls, and tons of Swarovski crystals in green and pink colors.

Needless to say, I am very proud to have won a lampwork Winter Beauty Contest, in competition with lots of fabulous jewelry artists, with this piece.
